The Sharjah Sports Council yesterday closed the curtain on its sporting event “Sharjah Virtual Rowing”, in which 300 participants and 25 nationalities participated from inside and outside the country, and organized in cooperation with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, Al Qudra Services Company, and 11 sports halls in various emirates of the country.
The event, which was launched on the ninth of last August, is a community sports initiative to urge and encourage everyone to practice sports, and to emphasize its importance in the lives of everyone in society.
Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, said: “This event comes as an extension of the virtual sporting events and initiatives during the previous period, in line with the precautionary and preventive measures within the Council’s keenness to continue organizing activities for various groups of society, as a translation of the directives and visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chair of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Executive Council, and their great support for sports and athletes.
He added: “The event witnessed great success, as the Council was keen, through the management of sporting and community events, to present a new event in which practitioners of sports in general and rowing sport in particular had the opportunity to participate in it and found remarkable interaction even from outside the country, which confirms the positive impact of these events on various categories of society, while being keen to diversify activities to include the largest number of sports fans and practice it in various ways under the circumstances in which sports activity has stopped. However, these virtual activities provided opportunities to continue and emphasize the importance of sport and make it a daily lifestyle.
Al Hazami praised the efforts of the work team in the success of this initiative from the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, Al Qudra Company for Sports Services and Gyms in the various emirates of the country, and the Sports and Community Events Management team in the Council, stressing the Council’s keenness to continue these activities under all circumstances that reflect the positive impact of sport on all ages. And casting positive shadows on the Council’s initiatives in sports or society and working to increase the number of sports practitioners, especially as the emirate is distinguished by sports and creating a sporting environment, whether at the level of clubs or community events.
